Academy Approves Affiliation with University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies
(Toronto: 16 November 2007) The Academy for Lifelong Learning has approved a Letter of Understanding between the Academy and the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies. Members of the Academy have long urged an official connection with the University on condition of acceptance of the Academy's mission and educational model. This agreement was forged as the result of work done by a Committee established by the Board.
The Academy and SCS share the common goal of providing high level programs for mature adults. Under the terms of the agreement, the two organizations will promote each other’s programs and share information on later-life learning. The agreement permits the Academy to use the following statement in its publications: In collaboration with the School of Continuing Studies, University of Toronto, the Academy offers programs for adult learners. The Letter of Understanding is careful to point out that there is no administrative or financial connection implied in the affiliation. The Academy will continue to be an independent organization with exclusive responsibility for its programs, finances, and governance.
