Wednesday Forums - Winter 2012
These are held on alternate weeks from 2:00 to 4:00, at Knox College.

Jan. 18th. Presenting Our Presenters
Come to this always-popular forum! Hear three recommended mini-presentations
(Margaret Morriss on The Lady and the Creature: Mary Shelley and Frankenstein;
Pat Sibbald on Grey Owl: Environmentalist or Hoaxster?;
and Grace Scheel on The Cost of Cheap). These talks promise to be great.
Feb. 1st. The Many Faces of Elder Abuse
Join Elaine Vayda and Ryerson's Act II Studio's drama group
as they perform vignettes depicting the major forms of elder abuse
(physical, emotional, financial, isolation and neglect).
An important topic for us all that is communicated in a most entertaining way.
Feb. 15th. Toronto Public Library - What's New and Innovative
Academy members Ruth Kingma and Ann Mummenhoff welcome staff from the
Toronto Public Library system to discuss why The Globe and Mail calls
the Toronto Public Library system among the best in North America.
Topics include Author Talks, Thought Exchange, Books Clubs, eBooks,
Genealogy, volunteering, Home Library Service and much more.
Feb. 29th. Keeping Your Heart Healthy
Dr. Paula Harvey of Women's College Hospital will discuss preventing
cardiovascular disease, including new research on exercise, nutrition,
stress management and lifestyle choices. This forum will emphasize gender differences in
heart disease, managing a cardiac condition, and will inform us about
the Women's Cardiovascular Health Initiative.
March 14th. Giving New Life to Historic Places: In and About Toronto
Join Julian Smith, executive director of Willowbank's School of Restoration Arts
in Queenston, as he discusses the importance of historical preservation
and his experiences locally and elsewhere.
He will also describe Willowbank's unique hands-on educational program.
